Direct help for Kengmaihia

TSoH has begun to provide assistance to the rural village of Kengmaihia, Lao. They’re struggling to recover in the aftermath of the worst flooding in memory. Homes and farmland have been destroyed by this recent disaster, with many people countrywide still missing and homeless. Lao is one of the poorest countries on earth, receiving little help from the government or international assistance programs.

To improve this situation, we would like to give more to the people of this village in direct help. By supplying some of the basic essentials of life (bottled water, bagged rice, non perishable food, etc), we can address the immediate problem. In the second stage we will give some help by providing building materials to repair the damaged homes and to give support in rebuilding the water supply.

This can be combined with our proposed “Vegetable Gardens” project, a longer term organic gardening plan to provide seeds, supplies and tools to realize an all year supply of vegetables for consumption and sale. Teaching chemical free, small sized gardening with high production vegetables and vines can add a food source and income to the villagers. This system, along with the alternating and rotation of small crops will insure the maximum organic use of the soil, without depleting its existing nutrients.

Now more than ever, we should implement the immediately needed short term goal supplies:

  • Canned food, bottled water, blankets, bagged rice and other non perishables.
  • Temporary shelter and building repair materials: tarps, wood posts, cement, bricks.

Small plot organic gardening supplies to begin the long term goals:

  • Seeds, twine, stakes, wire fencing, composting barrels, hand tools.
  •  PVC pipe, valves, hoses, drip lines, plastic sheeting

For all of this we need your help. If you would like to be part of this project, please donate with the comment “Direct help for Kengmaihia” to TSoH. Corporate sponsors can receive credit in our future publications at our website and social media pages.
