The Spirit of Humanity.org is sponsoring a project to benefit the poor village children in Kengmaihia, Laos. We would like to invite you to participate in the helping of these desperately poor children.. We need your help!

This small isolated community is representative of many in one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia. Most villages only provide primary schooling (1st through 5th grade), which is the only schooling for most rural students.

The village has donated a two room bamboo building next to the primary school for a lower secondary school (6th through 8th) and upper secondary school (9th through 11th). The village will provide all the labor for improvements.

WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTION PROVIDES

Basic building materials to repair and improve the roof and walls. Waterproof siding, doors, windows and concrete flooring. Electric wire from meter to classrooms for fans, lights, fixtures and desktop computers.

An equally important issue in providing an education to these kids is that they are an easy target for foreign recruiters. These unscrupulous employers offer small sums of money to the children’s parents or caretakers, with promises of training and jobs. The kids are excited about the future prospect of a job. Most all families have a horror story about the abuse that often occurs, but their desperation and hopeful wishes can be a powerful persuasion.

Most of the working age parents are forced to illegally migrate to large cities for work. The left behind children are usually raised by their grandparents whose only income is from what is sent home to them from working family members.

HOW TO BECOME A HERO TO THESE KIDS

Each donor’s full name will be engraved on a metal plaque by using your last name first in alphabetical order. The plaque will be mounted on a permanent monument on school grounds. Every student will be given a number of names to learn. Teaching them to learn the proper English pronunciation and spelling of your name, plus the alphabet is an important step in their learning process. With help they will be encouraged to write personal “Thank you” letters expressing gratitude for your donation. By being a part of their education, you are a true hero.

CHILDREN HAVE A CHANCE BECAUSE OF YOU

Your generosity has the potential to deliver critically needed support for the children. Improving these two classrooms will extend student schooling by six years. This will help to prevent the unscrupulous recruiters from preying on the 10 year old’s who have completed their education. The child slave labor market exists because of poverty and desperation. Help to solve this problem by keeping these kids in school.
