The traditional way of life is through small plot rice farming, gathering of wild growing fruits and vegetables from the surrounding forests, producing craft products and fishing the small rivers nearby. This village is not connected to a public transport system and is not visible on Google Maps (only if you switch to satellite view, map below). The only way for the villagers to reach the next larger city is by a truck with benches in back. This truck makes the trip only once a day and during the monsoon season access can be limited due to rising rivers and the poor quality of the unpaved roads.

Therefore, the area is in danger of losing its identity through rural exodus, like so many others in the region. This results in a more aging society which is struggling to preserve their culture heritage.

We as The Spirit of Humanity have decided to support this village and the surrounding area through building a cultural retreat and holiday resort. Our goal is provide jobs and a future to the people of this area.

What is a good human?
I’ve asked myself this question for a long time. The answer is very simple but it was difficult to find. It’s not only how much money you give or how much time you spend. Not only is this about the rich helping the poor, it’s more about something all of us can give.
A human which simply thinks more about other humans.
 

Our idea of a “Good Human Society”

  • A good human society should base their decisions on the impact to others.
  • A good human has an astute awareness of other humans.
  • A good human doesn't hesitate to call out for help.
  • A good human is not shy to help where he can.
  • A good human believes that all humans deserve empathy.
  • A good human belief is in the good of humanity.

 

Why a Good Human Society

Lots of decisions are done without thinking about the impact on others. We like to live a life in a world where people are looking out for each other and base their decisions on the impact of present and future generations. We are a reminder of the goodness in humans.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Helen Keller
This quote of Helen Keller commands us to build a strong group that demands the basic principles of humanity.
  • This group is the basis for the exchange of knowledge on how to become a Good Human. We plan to organize future seminars and other activities for our members about humanity.
  • Building a forum to exchange experience and knowledge as an extended part of our website, The-Spirit-of-Humanity.org (TSoH).
  • Helping TSoH in their efforts to build a cultural retreat facility in the mountainous southern region of Lao.
  • We are not a religious or political organization.
  • The Good Human Society will be a core part of The-Spirit-of-Humanity.org
