HOW TO BECOME A HERO TO THE KIDS
Our mission is a multi-faceted one. All our projects are interconnected to each other. The pilot program is designed to increase the rural educational program from the current first through fifth grades to sixth through eleventh grades. Using the Lao village of Kengmaihia (Champasak Province) as our model, we hope to expand our project to similar rural villages throughout Lao. Cambodia and Myanmar children also suffer from an inadequate rural schools program and are future countries of interest to expand our reach.
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE
Millions of children are on the move across international borders, fleeing violence and conflict, disaster or poverty, in pursuit of a better life. Hundreds of thousands move on their own. When they encounter few opportunities to move legally, children resort to dangerous routes and engage smugglers to help them cross borders. Serious gaps in the laws, policies and services meant to protect children on the move further leave them bereft of protection and care. Deprived, unprotected, and often alone, children on the move can become easy prey for traffickers and others who abuse and exploit them.
FACTS ABOUT BECOMING A NONPROFIT HERO
I’ve just finished reading an excellent article on Twitter posted by the President of GoFundMe, Juan Benitez. An article posted from his original story on Medium. I strongly suggest that you read the entire article, particularly if you have previously donated too, or intend to do so in the future.
“Online crowdfunding, like any other industry, has a responsibility to ensure the safety of their community members. That is why GoFundMe and Indiegogo joined forces to co-found the Crowdfunding Trust Alliance, whose focus is to make online fundraising even safer. We are working diligently to listen, learn and drive any necessary changes within the industry that can bolster the safety of our campaign organizers and donors”.
OPTIMISM, POSITIVE THINKING AND HOPE
I’ve always been an optimist. It was just a natural thing for me. At the age of 11, I received an octagonal shaped, blue and gold plated Junior International Optimist button hole pin. To this day, 66 years later, I still believe in the definition of and the philosophy of optimism.
Definition of optimism:
“A person who tends to be hopeful and confident about the future or the success of something.”
A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES MADE IN EPA REGULATIONS
We need to inform everyone of the danger to our public and private water distribution systems. The Environmental Protection Agency under the Trump Administration and Army Corps of Engineers have slated changes to shrink national water protections in February, 2020. In July 2017, the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers formally proposed rescinding the Clean Water Rule; a proposal that has not yet been finalized.
BEWARE ALL PHILANTHROPISTS
An addendum to the “Charity Begins at Home” short story previously submitted.
Each charitable act you decide is important and deserves your support should be vetted and its full transparency investigated. How much should I give to worthy causes after acknowledging my family is taken care of? What can I give of my life to benefit others? The answers to these questions always depend upon the individual.
ATTACKS AGAINST THE NORM
Some attacks against the norm will depend on motive. Social injustice, systemic racial prejudice, income inequity are all some valid reasons to seek change in ways where we break from normal procedure.
To attack the norm based on a motive of personal benefit will destroy our democracy.
IS THIS MORE OF THE FUTURE
The corona virus (Covid-19) has demonstrated the fallacy in believing that governments will eventually solve our problems. Simply understanding the many different types of fallacies will graphically show the illogical thinking shown by our political leaders. Applicable examples of fallacious reasoning.
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
This proverb was first recorded in English in a slightly different form. John Wycliffe wrote in his book, Of Prelates (c. 1380); “Charity should begin at himself.” 640 years later, this old adage is still being thoughtfully considered by philanthropic and altruistic humanitarians.
How much should I give to worthy causes after acknowledging my family is taken care of? What can I give of my life to benefit others?
EARLY CAR CLUBS OF SOCAL
While growing up in North Long Beach, California in the mid to late fifties, I remember the social importance of belonging to one of these clubs. I consider them to be a unique phenomena to Southern California where the car culture took root.
The following memories tell my story. The names of most car clubs dated back somewhere in history and were associated with warriors. A few that I remember are the Huns, Barbarians, Knights and Mongols. I was a member of the Drifters. Almost all of us were friends from the same high school. Membership varied from about 25–45.
BOYCOTT FACEBOOK
Facebook no longer serves a purpose to the people who made it a way to be socially connected. We need millions of ordinary people to rise up to voice their complaints.
Here are some of my reasons for addressing this:
• No such thing as Customer Support
• Robots are in charge
