Development project to stop the EPIC EXODUS
Rural, poor, indigenous people’s migration to population centers for work and a perceived better life is a worldwide problem. Many small villages in southeast Asia are comprised primarily of older grandparents caring for the young children left behind by working parents. Uneducated and often illegal, these workers suffer untold abuse by government officials and unscrupulous employers. Most of their meager earnings are then sent home to support the family, often with the dream to return to their village and cultural heritage.
The skills needed for the village way of life have been passed down from generation to generation. Elders now raising the children continue the tradition of teaching these valuable skills that are needed to live in the rural environment. The children’s dream is for the return of their parents and to continue the way of life being taught them by the elders.
